I rarely hunt "early" mornings. Even when we hunt first light it's still a race to get decoys set before legal shooting light. Just not worth it to burn a whole day by getting up that early around here. I shoot more birds after 12pm than I do before.

An hour or so before low tide and hunt till hight tide.
If it's a tough spot to get to I'll go in on the high and hunt the full tide change and go back out on the next high.

wow, that is early!
I get up about 5:30 and head out about a half hour later. Ducks and geese are not flying around my place until 6:40 or so.

ditto. that is, if i'm trying to fight for one of the samish ponds. i'll do that just to sit there for 14 hours and only have 1 bird commit to my spread.

About 1/2 hour to and hour before daylight, shoot the hell out of ducks until the morning goose flights around 9:00 a.m.

In my past experience we used to get to the blind by 2 or 3am and wait for the guys that get there 2 minutes before shooting light to set up 40yards away from us. I have found it is more frustrating to get up early and burn a day. I like to get up around 9 or 10 and wait for the 2-3am crowd to leave. Usually you can have the field to yourself and some fine afternoon shooting.

It depends on if we have ice or not. If we have ice we are normally out there 1 1/2 -2 hours before day break. If no ice 45 min.-1 hr. We set up our decoys and get settled in. One buddy is lucky if he gets to even shoot since he is always about 30-45min. late. When he comes out to the blind it normally takes him 20-30 min. to get to us because we make him hit the dirt when birds are locked on. Nothing better than a few buddies in the blind BSing.
