Norway pass Elk
« on: June 12, 2025, 12:11:05 AM »
Welp I got the muzzie bull tag which is amazing considering I drew the mt Whittier and toutle tag last year as well but this post is more to find the other tag holders and to maybe exchange hunt information if willing.

I have hunted this unit briefly with my father back when it was still considered the margerat when he had the tag and know the land a little bit but definitely open to tips and suggestions from more recent tag holders. Pictures of bulls from the unit would be appreciated to get a feel for the size class. From what I remember and heard there are very very few bulls that would be close to breaking 300. A lot of 5xs and a few bigger 6xs. I would like to make the most out of this hunt so again, suggestions are welcome. Thanks for reading.

If it’s not one of the best elk hunts in the state, it’s one or the best hunting experiences. But with all your luck drawing tags, you already have a feel for that.

After spending quite a bit of time before, during and after drawing my tag up there in 2019, I don’t think I’d pass on a solid 5 pt, unless you’re ok holding out for one of the couple big boys that are often around, and potentially eating the tag.

This is the biggest bull I have seen in my time up there.

Hey, congrats! Yes, your assessment of the bulls up there is spot on. Lots of opportunity for a solid five-point. I've spent a lot of time in that unit and always see lots of elk...but have never seen a six point or something that would break 300". Dark2Dark's bull is exceptional for that area. I think you will have a really fun time. Excited to hear how this goes for you.

I agree with everything already said in this post. However I would say, last year seemed to be exceptionally better for quality of animals that came out of there than what I have seen in the past. For a bull to get six points seemed like a feat for any of the Helen’s units. Last year I saw multiple 6 points, and know of two that go over 300” (barely), one being mine. I wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger on the bull pictured. Whether it’s a heavy 5 point or 6 point, both are great critters for the unit. As said it’s more of a blessing to get to hunt the area and appreciate the concentration of animals. But it has gotten better, and I would encourage some shopping. Good luck!
