curlew deer;muzzleloader&quads
« on: October 08, 2008, 08:48:33 PM »
i just got back from 4 days of hunting the the highlands between curlew and chesaw saw alot of animals but was unable to bag one.one thing beware there are a TON of big 2pts over there saw one that i swear was one of the biggest bodied deer ive seen tried relly hard to put an eye guard on him he just stood there with out a care in the world.i had a great time took my 2 young sons 10&7.we hiked every day i was so proud of them not whining even when it started to rain when we where 2 miles from the truck.we even saw a moose only the second one ive ever seen over there.only one thing i can really complain about.people on quads.yesterday my sons and i hike about 1 mile in on an old logging road then through the brush over looking this beatiful hillside where we had seen a nice 3pt the night before when here comes 2 guys on quads tearing up and down the road and then shooting a handgun off at a beer can.needless to say the deer we where watching got the hell out of dodge. i go back to the truck and down the road a 1/4 of amile to there camp and ask what they where shooting at and whether they were hunting rifle or muzzle.they inform me that they are rifle hunters just out shooting and scouting for the opener i just shook my head and turned away.that is a great spot but i doubt the deer will still be there for the opener.the problem i have is they went right by my truck that was parked offthe road and then started shooting not knowing where my sons and i where or anyone else back there.it was a great lesson for the boys.my youngest looked at my and asked dad why are they shooting their just going to scare all the deer away.i just smiled and gave him a hug. GOOD LUCK RIFLE HUNTERS AND BE SAFE. kram and sons.

I'm glad you and your sons had a good time. I have great memories hunting with my dad, grandpa and brothers that i wouldn't trade for anything.

I'm like you in that i don't like the idea of shooting just for shooting sake when hunting season is on. its a goofy concept to me...but then we always have those people out there only caring about their time in the woods.

I hope you aren't to discoraged and that you can still get out there for the late hunt.
People get offended at nothing at all. So, speak your mind and be unapologetic.
