I like 5k a day to go down there. A guy can still hit them with lower counts but early it can be hit or miss.

If fishing below Bonneville I like to go as soon as you get 3 or 4 days of 3,000+ fish a day.  If fishing above Bonneville I like to wait unitl atleast 50,000 have went over.

We fished washougal the last 2 days.
Fri nite and sat--kinda slow.
Today we got 15, the 4 guys next to us got about 70.
Saw 2 jack chinook released. Mint chromers.
Windy at the dam. Going up there next weekend.

Columbia River Shad are running good!!  On Sunday At the shad rack my son and I boated 50 shad and lost some too in about 3 hours of fishing. Released one jack salmon with a high fin caught on a gold & chartreuse dick night.

First off---why were you at the shad rack in a boat? It is closed from Beacon rock to the dam for boats.

We caught close to 100 shad at bonneville and Washougal in the last 3 days.
I'm tired now.

The shad rack is about a half mile downstream from the north bonnieville boat lauch. You will see an island and you stay to the left of the island there is a green bouy there. You will see the boats you anchor in about 10 to 13 feet of water. We use small dick nights the silver with red bottom. We use a 3 foot dropper and 5 foot leader and 2oz lead or 3 if you get out to far like in 15 feet' Watch the boats that are really catching fish and get above them in the same depth.

Shad are excellent for crab bait. Put a few slashes in them and secure them in the pot. One of my top baits!

Sorry.
I saw the rule change for Oregon and thought both states have the same rules.
The oregon rules say no shad fishing.

The shad rack is not a place for beginners. If you go there make sure you have a damn good anchor and are proficient at anchoring in fast water with a river rock bottom. It can be hard to get your anchor to grab if the flows are up.

Went to the Bonneville dam yesterday with a friend and we did really good.  Came home with about 85 and lost at least that many.  Really thin and soft mouths.  You loose a lot right at your feet trying to pull them up on the rocks.  Great day of shad wackin though, we fished from 6:30 am to 10:30am.  Just looked at the counts and it was over 195k for yesterday.

What link do you use to check fish counts?
The one I have always used hasnt updated yesterdays counts yet....unless something is screwy with my settings, never had an issue before.

odd....thats the same one I use as well.
I looked at it finding it through google...closed that screen....clicked your link and it was updated.  Weird.
Mcnary was a tick on the slower side (compared to what I caught last year) this weekend.  Going to hit it again in the next week or so and see what happens.
