question about hunting on logging areas
« on: May 16, 2013, 01:24:02 PM »
Hello all I am new to Washington and I am wanting to go hunting this year but I have a couple questions that no one can seem to answer for me. I live in Rochester by Lincoln Creek and Ingalls Road and there are a ton of logging roads right by my house. I went to buy my hunting tags and was told that I cant hunt that area. I saw a TON of people hunting the area last year but I have been informed that I have to buy a specail license to hunt this are. Any help or direction is very appreciated.

I don't know for sure as I'm on the other side of the state, but I'm guessing it's timber land. Check your county assessor's site and see who owns the land. Then contact them and see what their policy is. But my guess is someone here will be able to tell you before you get that far. Welcome to the site.

That is all part of Weyerhaeuser's Pe Ell tree farm, and for the first time ever, this year it will not be open to the public.

Try driving further out Lincoln Creek road to the L3000 road. That road should be open and it accesses a large block of state (DNR) land. If you get a fair distance back up in there, up high, you will eventually end up on Weyerhaeuser land. That area is still open to the public, no pass required.

There are still lots of places to hunt. You just may have to drive further.

Oh, also check Deep Creek road. Drive to the end of it and you can access another large block of DNR land. This block can also be accessed from Teague Road.

I should add that you can hunt that area, but it is $200 for a pass. That will allow you access from August 1st to December 31st.

The passes are set to go on sale June 1st.

Check their web site the maps they have on-line do show what areas that will not need the pass. You do have some (DNR) State land that is open. Not a lot.
