GPS Choices

Hey guys need your opinion. I have a 60% off sale at my work on Magellan gps's. I know most of you are die hard Garmin guys but with that deal do you think its worth the price? I can get the Explorist 310 Hunter package for $140.

It's like getting 60% on a bad tune-up. Get a Rino!

For that price I would try it. I've not heard anything bad about Magellan, they're just not as popular as Garmin for some reason.

It depends what ya expect.  Ya get what ya pay for.  If I had it it would be in a drawer unless kids were playing with it.  Garmins much better units.  But if just basic gps and sat signal not a big deal ok..  Cglist sometimes as well.  Sorry Im a Garmin guy but theres a reason for it.

Are there any of the Garmins that are cheaper than the Rino and still a good product? I can geta deal on them as well, there just more expensive to start with and I only get 40% off on Garmin...and I have a budget..

Magellan makes good products. I've used them before and no complaints at all. I'd buy it, especially at 60% off

I use a garmin e-trek hi-sensitivity. Very basic and reliable. Does everything i need. Can be had on sale for $80.

My last Magellan sucked. I can't remember the model, but I'll never buy another. I might as well have been waiting for satellites to lock up on my compass.

I've had a couple Garmins that were slow in locking onto satellites too, in comparison to my newer Garmin 60csx.

I've only owned one Garmin, my 655T. It locks up incredibly fast. Both Magellan and Delorme have been real problems for me in that category.

I was pretty blown away how fast my new 62ST locks up, but then I was use to a 10+ year old Magellan Meridian. LOL
In it's time it was a good GPS though.

Yeah, but getting out of the truck in the morning and waiting for it to lock up seemed like forever.

I use to put it up on the roof of my truck, while I got my pack and rifle together, then wait. LOL.
Once it locked up, it worked well though. Especially in the Mt Adams area it was very helpful trying to remember which way you were actually traveling on some of those FS RDs, LOL
