I thought the Kettle Falls / Coleville Area is supposed to be the capital for turkey hunts? Sitting here off mellenberger RD and not even turkey tracks in the area. Called a few times during the last 2 hours and nothing. anyone have any suggestions where to go publicly in the area I'm open to ideas I would like to fill this tag today thank you. Lots of predator birds here.

Had you located any birds in the area before you decided to hunt?

I think numbers are down a bit, not all over, but some micro-climes are showing lower numbers of birds. Of course, this is late in the season too, but they are still gobbling out there. I've been hearing them.

have not located any birds yet I have talk to uh guy driving down off for service road he said he'd shot one as It was crossing the street.  when up and down Trout Lake Road hiked over about half  mile off road. haven't heard anything yet

Keep going. My second year hunting I didn't even see a turkey until the third day. Everybody kept saying, "They are everywhere. I had thirty in my yard this morning."
Sometimes you just are where they are not. You'll get to them eventually. It's hunting.

Like said some where else....it's like elk hunting, if they ain't there, you got to move on. Occasionally they ARE there, but won't make a peep so as not to bring "others" in.

Watched a tom with two hens do exactly that....we were watching them, and when we called, toms over the hill responded, and in fact, come in. The hens/tom combo moved off as the other toms came in. I'm sure that tom with the hens didn't want to share with the others, and I'll bet them toms had seen the lone male with the hens.
I think that is what made 'em come in so readily to our call....take advantage of the situation.

Birds go thru moods just like we do ... sometimes they plainly don't want to talk at all and other days they'll talk your leg off ...  try the Little P.O. Wildlife refuge ... try any state land off Haller Creek, Vanasse, Slide Creek, etc. ... try driving back roads early and late and spotting birds, then come back at a decent hour and ask for permission to hunt some private land.
