Hot Spring Bear Tip for Monroe Unit!
« on: June 03, 2013, 12:18:56 PM »
From Brad Otto with the spring program....

On another note, I was up behind the gravel pit on the Scotty road a few weeks ago, saw many fresh scat piles, a bunch of recent peels and one jet black 150 lb bear..Feel free to pass that info along..
There is two gates behind the gravel pit. The one that goes up is the one wanted, it has about 8 miles of road system. The gate is actually not lockable at the moment unless DNR has fixed it (just dummy locked). The one that goes downhill next to the creek is the closed system. We had a couple of reports of the hunters going down this way, so make sure and emphasize the other gate to anyone you may know with a tag…

8 miles of road seems exagerated. Been back there on foot, bike and vehicle but never checked milage so  :dunno: Going up to Chitwood lake there are miles of road but its not in the spring bear unit.

Not 8 miles directly.....8 miles of spurs and side roads....either way all tips are good tips.

There are probably 8 miles of roads in there, a lot of them can only be walked, or should only be walked.  There was a lot of tree damage and a lot of bear crap there last year.

There isnt nearly as much damage in there this year as there was last year.  At least not yet.  Was in there over the weekend.

Lake Rosiger is showing activity quite a bit this last week also for what its worth. I have been real close but haven't been able to close the deal. Not sure how much I can get out in the next week so hopefully somebody can get another one down. The berries are really coming in too.

Thanks for the info. I am hitting it hard this weekend again. Was close to one on sunday night but wind changed and off it went. Hate the feeling of wind on the back of my neck.
