Kayak Fishing?
« on: June 10, 2013, 03:28:11 PM »
My girlfriend and I rented a kayak this weekend and paddled around Lake Union for awhile and had a blast. I know that Kayak fishing is a thing now and I wanted to know if anyone has done it. Are fishing ones much different than regular ones? I want to head into the sound for some salmon this summer but I’d also like to do all the regular kayaking things with it.

Kayak fishing has come a loooonnnggg way. There is a guy that has a montly section in the Northwest Sportsman. There were two guys out in kaykas this weekend sturgeon fishing in the salt. They looked like they were dialed in. It could be a great way to get out and have access to lots of types of water and fishing. Keep us posted.

I just have a regular double sea kayak you paddle and have put a rod holder on it for trolling.  Just did work next to Glacier National park last weekend and had room for the Kayak, was a blast.  Fished all over the National park and caught fish all day, missed the fishing boat as the trolling motor is awesome, obviously with the Kayak  I am the motor.  I have seen the actual "fishing " ones and they look cool, mine works great for what I do.   Mike

This is a good resource. I just got into Kayak fishing and its a blast! Also it can be done for relatively cheap. Heres a topic that I started a month ago. No need to go spend 2k on a fancy fishing kayak. I spent $180 on mine and it is great. Upgrade after you get the hang of things. A sit on top is nice and you wont have to worry about bailing any water ect... but Mine is a sit in and is no problem. Feel free to send me a PM with questions and I can help you out.

Got a buddy that has gotten me into thinking of going into the Kayak fishing.  No motor, no launch fee, no trailer, no moorage, no extra gear, simple and fun!  Seems like a perfectly good move to make, granted a huge down scale regarding boats, but a lot of fun no doubt.

Grew up as a kid white water kayaking in WV, so on top might be a bit to get used to after twenty years of not doing it...
