I would say Thanksgiving time is accurate. It really depends and there are many phases in a rut cycle. If you are just talking about the bucks letting their guards down then usually around Thanksgiving you'll start to see them more often. The other reason for this also is that the bucks are moving out of the high country due to increased winter weather and populating areas more easily accesible.

I would notch my tag for a 150 class buck.  What are the dates of the rut over there on a typical year?  ive never hunted mule deer in washington during the rut.  Ive hunted Montana during in the rut and its typically right befor thanksgiving for the prime of it.

The rut will be during the first half of November. By the time your hunt starts most of the does should have already been bred.

What bobcat said was true...most of the does will be bread. But in my experience the end of the rut for mule deer can be the most effective time. Two things are working in your favor during this time. The snow is starting to fall pushing the bigger bucks into lower elevations. The fact that most of the does have been bread means that there are only a few left for the many bucks cruising to fight over. This can cause the bucks to be less cautious and makes more mistake as the competition increases. If you need some areas that are more specificlet me know. I can help you. Not a trophy area per say...but some nice deer here.

trytough...can you get a personal message? I am going to be up in Chattaroy this weekend for my second deer and maybe shoot a buck. I could get you set up on some good areas for your hunt. I live near the unit and I would love to help you out.

Get permission from private landowners, We seen 34 deer in a 1 mile stretch all on private pastures. There are herds of cow (literally moo cow's) that roam free out there, So dont be fooled by all the fencing on the sides of the roads, Lots of it is WDFW/DNR land and huntable, They just don't want people driving in.
