Teanaway late archery deer
« on: June 21, 2013, 07:34:28 AM »
I drew this tag this year and was wondering if anyone had any good info or past experiences in this unit?  Thanks!

Lots of private but you can get on some big bucks with a little snow. Good hunt if you can find some of public ground

:dunno: i wouldnt worry about trying to get private land to hunt... PLENTY of public land where the deer are.

Welcome :hello:

There are some dang good bucks in that unit. I'd get up there right now and start finding them while they are in velvet and easier to find. A good friend of mine had the rifle tag two years ago and struggled.

How do you think the big burn that went through there last year will affect the deer, any ideas?

No fires in that unit so don't worry about that I would worry about wolves and a struggling deer herd.

I ate that tag in 06 and it didnt taste too bad. LOL. My own fault, hunted nearly every day but set the bar too high I guess.

The deer aren't in there like they used to be but there are still some good ones to be found. I got a picture of a nice buck in there I think it was last year that I would have been happy to notch my tag with. I will see if I can find the picture.

I lived up there for a while. If the snow flies early, the big bucks will work their way down where you can get at them. We would go for drives and walks when the snow started falling and routinely saw nice deer. I would be happy with a 150" in that unit and hope something bigger walks by. Good luck.

I would notch my tag for a 150 class buck.  What are the dates of the rut over there on a typical year?  ive never hunted mule deer in washington during the rut.  Ive hunted Montana during in the rut and its typically right befor thanksgiving for the prime of it.

THe fires last season wont have any impact on your hunt.  Wolves are changing the critters a bit.  I am seeing fewer critters, they are spookier, and they are staying timbered up more than usual.  All common reactions to this predator.
