Salad shrimp???

I heard some older gentalmen talking about using salad shrimp for trout and steelhead.  Has anyone used them? I figure they will be soft can I pack them in salt for a few days to harden them up?

They are another bait that works.  I've used them for trout years ago when I fished for them.  At that time they worked better than any other bait availiable in a lake/pond.  Never need to harded them up for that.  You can always do a test batch to see what you think.

They work for salmon also, pinks love them
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

That is by far my most productive bait for steelhead.  :tup:
You have to go thru the different packs of them at the seafood isle and figure out which packs have the larger sized shrimp and get them as fresh as possible. If they have been previously frozen it makes them noticeably softer which is still OK but fresh unfrozen is far better (and sometimes firm enough to not need a cure). Then you just use whatever color and cure you would use for eggs and it will harden them up quite a bit so they stay on the hook better. Then just match up the size of a single shrimp to a egghook and thread it on the hook and drift it. I've tried eggs, sand shrimp, and other artificial stuff and salad shrimp is always the most productive to fish with if you can use it there. 
Not sure but it would probably be a killer bait for rainbows too.  :dunno:

If you do need to harden them up cook them in the microwave it makes them rubbery.
