New Rig.....7.3 Powerstroke
« on: July 03, 2013, 08:41:32 AM »
Well after 16 years I'm parting with my truck, a 1994 Ford C350 Centurion with a 460. Currently has 118,600 miles on it. Been a great rig. Just loves gas too much.

Decided to upgrade to a 2002 Ford Excursion Limited, with a 7.3 Powerstroke with 126,070 miles on it. Two tone interior, with four captains.

Was going to buy a smaller crossover for trips since the wife is retiring which makes us both retired. Centurion was my hunting rig and did light duty pulling my 22' North River Commander. After seeing the milage one gets in a crossover such as a Cadillac SRX or Buick Enclave...22mph highway, I thought why not eliminate a vehicle and get an Excursion with a 7.3. They get 16-20+ depending highway and far more comfortable. Not that much difference, and I like big to travel in. Still take it hunting and pull my boat on the side.

If it wern't for the fact I'm trying to eliminate a vehicle I would never get rid of the Centurion.  I would just spend a few bucks to cosmetically restore her appearance and fix a few relatively minor things.

So far....about 21.2 freeway and 14.1 around town.  Few upgrades in the near furure...Schaeffers oil and fuel treatment, Ford Mororcraft AIS intake system, and new 4" turbo back stainless exhaust system should increase those figures somewhat.

May be able to actually get the X in the garage.

The old....and the new............

Very nice! The ones with the 7.3 are hard to find in that good of shape.

I wish my 02 excursion got that kind of milage.  I guess if I kept my foot out of it it might help.   Very nice looking excursion.

Very nice rig, congrats! I know all the excursions I looked at were either holed out with a 7.3, or real nice with a v10. good find!

Awesome!  Loved my 7.3.  Tips are get a good fuel filter system and watch trans. like a hawk!  Temp gauge for sure.  They get real hot at slow speeds so use 4-low when towing.  Injector lifespan is about 130k-150k normally without good fuel filter system.  Edge with egt probe and display is a cheap way to roll and have full gauges.  Unplug and block red wastegate tube for faster turbo spool.  Boost foolers mechanical map sensor is another safe boost adder.
MAGA!  Again..

A few months ago we picked up a 2000 Excursion 7.3 Limited, one owner, all service records, 72K original miles, paid more than book but you almost have to when a good one comes up for sale. It was $19,000. They sell fast!!!!!

For my rigs i run a 2 filter system for the fuel. the "normal" spin on and then a 2 Micron after that.

Just out of curiosity, why didin't you dropp a 7.3 in your centurian? Or is that going to be the project for the next owner? :chuckle:
