No elk left in the Blues
« on: July 12, 2013, 01:55:35 PM »
Spent all last weekend hiking/scouting in the Blues (Dayton, Watershed, and Wenaha West units). Had a great time but it was a bit of a downer. We saw more wolf scat than any other sign. Hello wolves, good bye elk.

Enjoy those tags while you've got 'em, the days of quality elk hunts in the Blues may be over....

(sorry for such a negative post)  :sry:

Weird. I saw a couple dozen down there a few weeks ago and didn't even leave the car.

I know...call me crazy.

All gone! They've been eaten or run out by the wolves and Sasquatch! Occasionally one or two will wonder over from high up in Oregon. But head right back across the border. Trust us locals when we talk about how bad it has become.  8)

I was there scouting Friday, I actually heard a bull bugle twice in the morning,  thought I was loosing my mind but he did it twice about twenty minutes apart.  It will be a good year for u guys with the tags, lots of 3ft high green grass, the lower foothills look awesome this time of year.

if people are seeing elk in the blues then I need to get my wife up there. the shrooms must be putting spores in the air & causing hallucinations. maybe she could catch a few, see a foot & be hooked. then it wont be so hard for her to understand why I go all the time, come home with nothing but a smile & stories of what could have been.   then again she might see a wolf & understand the tears.

When I hunted down there the culprits were the Nez Pierce tribe from Idaho.

Drove through my old spots on the backs roads way to Lewiston yesterday.....cant remember a time that I have seen so many elk...especially big bulls in velvet. More Elk there then any other place in that state. If i didn't already have other plans I would hunt there for sure. Pass it on!

As per my previous postings I did an aerial survey about a month ago from Pasco to Salt Lake City and didn't see one elk in the Blues.
