I like small water... But I only saw two taken Friday on the Kalama, and nothing the rest of the weekend. I floated/fished from the hatchery down Sunday morning and didn't even see a metal head in the water. -although, there are some pretty deep holes and other upper riffles you can't see from the roadway that could have been holding. Still, I couldn't get a strike.

just got home from another killing run. Monday we killed 10 steelhead. Mostly small 4-5# fish Tuesday we only killed 2 but they were better size. The seal killed 1 and we lost several but it was a much slower bite.

My buddy says his freezer is getting full. I've given most of mine away.

They are still coming in.  August is usually a good month for them, but the rivers are really low and clear.  Having to use leaders as light as 4 lb to not spook them.  :yike:  I need that special dye stuff they use for parachute rescue at sea....toss in a bag to green up the river for a few minutes.  :chuckle:

Tends to get more and more difficult as the summer wears on. First rains, or any little shot of rain and things will go bananas for a day or even more. Good time to be there....

season is about over for me going back to work monday. I fished tuesday in a new spot I've been wanting to check out. Got skunked. The fish have also moved deeper.

Before I give you my Steelhead report I want to explain how I have struggled now for about 2 years to really figure out walleye fishing. My success has been poor to very poor.

My success at Steelhead fishing over the last ten years has been stellar! I have a little over 12 hours of pulling plugs below McNary Dam in the past few days and I have yet to catch a steelhead. I know it’s still early but the past few years we have had good early August success. We pulled hotshots and flatfish (K11's) at the mouth of the Umatilla and several other places up to the dam and nothing.

I am sure your curious why I told you my sad walleye story! Well apparently when I want to catch Walleye I just need to go Steelhead fishing.
