More Bucks?
« on: July 29, 2013, 01:23:44 PM »
I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing more groups of bucks on the far east side than normal this year. We always see a few bucks around this time of year, but this year I'm seeing more groups of 4-5 or more together than I remember seeing.  Came by the seven bays area Friday night and one group near the road was 13 mulies, all bucks.  I've got 8 bucks in one group coming out around my house on a nightly basis and seems everytime I see a buck lately, there are at least two or three  together. Talking to some of the locals in the 121 unit they are saying the same thing.  Maybe the APR, but still not sure why they are hanging out together more than usual. These are not all small bucks either, of the 8 around my house 5 are for sure legal bucks and I'm thinking 2 more probably will be when they're done growing out. I don't know why they are hanging out together the way they are.

Perhaps it's like the elk in Montana, the wolves may be driving them down to private ground. :dunno:

I've seen more bucks this year than the last couple of years. On the east side, anyway.

Glad someone is...

I've been seeing fewer by quite a bit....
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

Probably not a scientific  count,  but I've been seeing them while driving around scouting my Grouse places. Last year I saw one spindly legged skinny sickly doe  just west of Brewster. This year I'm seeing them { Nothing big and all in velvet} all over up those logging roads.

Actually, they seem to be staying much lower than normal this year.  If you are in the Spokane area, take a drive up Miles Creston road between Hwy 25 and 7 bays.  You'll see some bucks thru there that will make you drool. Always hanging out around there, but not in the numbers and size I'm seeing this year. I wish I was better with a camera, some great photo ops there lately. Almost all are mulies and, as stated earlier, hanging out in "bucks only" groups.

I know around Wenatchee the deer are low around orchards and in the lower mountain ranges. I have talked to a lot of people about It and they all say from predator pressure keeps them down here after they migrate I know I have a couple high country bucks that I have sheds off living in the lower mountains...
