Bucks are definitely rutting.  Brother just called me from (secret spot)  He had a doe and a 5x5 blackie in full rut blow right across in front of him on the road.  He bailed out but lost them in the brush.  He said that bucks neck was big around as his shoulders.  He said it was the 2nd biggest blacktail he had ever seen.

Little bucks been pushing does in my yard lately. They won't come into my yard untill the pre rut or rut starts [scared of my dogs]. They don't chase the deer but they do make them nervous when they bark.

Saw the same doe last night at dusk and this morning around 8:30.  She was with her yearling fawn last night and alone this morning, same spot.  I waited a while for a buck to show up but that didn't happen.  Seeing lots of new rubs just about everywhere there is an "edge".

What kind of altitude are we talking about?  I'll be up in the hills this weekend.  I've got an elk tag and a deer tag I'd like to fill.  My spots all picked out, saw some great rubs last weekend, but no animals.  Hoping they haven't come of the mountain yet.  Thoughts?

Do you think you can rattle some blacktails in on the late modern firearm season?...
