Last weekend of bow season in MT....got one!
« on: October 22, 2008, 08:02:42 PM »
Well, after chasing elk about 9 days this season and antelope 3 days, i decided to try and fill a deer tag before it was too late... I saw a TON of deer as a recent snow storm had dumped over 4 feet in the mountains and upwards of 2-3 feet even down here in the valley...

The deer were all bunched up already. Mostly on private, but I actually saw bunches of 10-18 deer does mixed with bucks ON public...very strange...
This guy was in a field next to the road at abou 2 pm!

And so was this guy...

Forgive the pic quality...some of these were pretty stretched out and I cropped them.
I saw many sights like this on Saturday..

So i spent some time jumping from tiny piece of public to tiny piece of public surrouned by these ranches that had all these deer standing around...

This guy was ooooohhh soooo close to public...but not quite!

and then I found some does that WERE on public. I have 3 doe tags in my pocket, plus a buck tag...and I can get more doe tags if I need to.. so I went for it...
At about 40 yards I snapped a pic... she wasn't very concerned...she was a gift I think!

I ended up doing this to her...

She basically stood there...mixed in with just a little walking...and let me fling 3 arrows through her at about 18 yards... All three were in about a softball sized area...all back...but all in the liver. SHe lived about 5 minutes after the 3rd shot...at which time she ran about 70 yards and collapsed and lay there breathing for the 5 minutes....

Here I am with .... FINALLY... a bow killed animal!!!

I was still working on it Phool!!  :)

Here's a cool anatomy pic... Look how high the scap is and how forward the humerous is.... I think most people shoot too far back thinking they need to miss the scap... man...if you are hitting scap..you are way off... right? I pulled all my shots left...which...if I miss...thats always where I miss too! :bash:
