This is the official source for fire progress at Conrad.

Awesome trip, no smoke, all 4x4 trails open. Even stopped and talked to Gasman and crew. Fire crews had no issues with us up the 1000 rd a ways.

Thanks Pete for commin up to Lost lake to make sure we made it back! Severed the leaf springs on the rt rear and had to come along the rear axle in place and remove the driveline to limp it back the 15 to 18 miles.

Rimrock 4 x 4 trails are no joke!  ;)

Good meeting you guys up there  :hello:  and glad you guys made it off the trails safely, even if it was limping that sami 15 miles back to camp

Hope your girl was able to be kept warm Sat night  ;)

Does anyone have any insight on chances of road/ camping closures being lifted by next weekend? I'm up to date on the formal incident reports, just looking for some of you guys that might have relationships with those in charge of closures.

Looks like the fire may get some rain. Also expect some of the roads and the peninsula to be opened up around labor day.

Where did you get info.  I was up there this weekend and talked to a couple of the fire guys and they still have 1000, 1204 and 1205 roads closed, posted and personel stationed at the end of the roads to prevent access.

They are pulling resources from the Conrad fire and sending them to the Manastash fire.  Up to 600 people at one point over at RR.  Now only about 150.  The fire is on the west side of Conrad Meadows near Conrad and Phantom Lakes.  So, 1000 rd to Conrad is closed, plus 1204, 1205 and 1241 rds, plus roads by airstrip (i.e., peninsula).  They have entire Pinegrass area closed as they are still worried that it will jump up on top and come burning down Pinegrass.  They have about 25% containment, mostly on the south edge.  The north and northeast sides of the fire are up in the Goat Rocks wilderness and they are just letting it burn, and it was burning to the South and to the North-Northeast by Phantom Lake this weekend.  About 1100 acres so far.

The people I talked to this weekend said the plan is to just monitor the fire and let winter rain/snow put it out.  This is what fire management team told them all at 6am Saturday morning briefing before turning them loose to work.  Plus, they don't plan to let anyone into Conrad or Pinegrass areas for hunting, until the fire is OUT.  Since they aren't actively fighting fire any longer, that could be a very long time (unless we get a LOT of rain soon).

They said Lost Lake area (i.e., 1202 and 1203 rds) and area near Clear lake (i.e., 1201 rd) are open, but that's it and they don't expect anything will change before or during the archery season.

I think we all need to call Naches District and raise a rukus about Conrad Fire access.  Even if they keep area near fire closed for camping, they should still allow access for hunting.  Move the closed portions of the roads farther up and closer to the fire.  If it flares up again or gets away from them, I think most of us are bright enough to know when to get outta there, if we need too.

I heard that from camp. Also the rain did help. The fire isn't putting out a lot of smoke.

Good news, hope they get some more rain this week (w/o lightning)!

Thanks,

ET
