I have a bone to pick with the Westport Charter Boat Association. I would like to see them allow private boat fishermen & women to inter the daily derby's. It's really discriminating against the private boat owners to be left out of the money. With this last king I caught with Buckhorn2 I would have won (so far) about $800.00 (of course I would have split it with Del, and my neighbor Craig), and be in the running for the yearly prize of $2500.00. I have caught many big fish that would have been in the running for the prize money. Like lingcod that tipped the scale at 48 pounds, and seabass that weighted 15 pounds ( I boated 5 of them in one day). Of course this has not all been this year, but within the last 5 years. I would tend to think that the money that the private boat folks would spend, might increases the prize money, or increases what ever the money goes for.I'm going to talk with the association about allowing private boat owners to be allowed to buy a ticket for the daily derby. If they still say NO then maybe a court date might be in order.Hunterman(Tony)

The CBA wants to run a CBA derby, so be it. You want to force this private group to change their rules so you can join the derby? Wow. Run your own derby.

I hear you, we had a halibut this year that would have taken it. Mabey someone can suggest they run a side pot for non charters, but hey, I can barley afford to fill up my boat so I dought I would enter any way!Took this clip off the Westport Charter Boat association web page. The Westport Charterboat Association has been sponsoring Fishing Derbies for over fifty years now. In the early years they covered a week-end. Today, the Derby is on every day of the season. Before and after salmon season, the Derby is operated on a weekly basis. A cash prize up to $500.00, equivalent to half the derby ticket sales proceeds for the week, is paid out for the biggest Lingcod, Blackcod, or Cabezon of the week. During the Halibut Directed season, the Halibut prize is a $500 daily prize with a $10 ticket. The Lingcod derby continues weekly. During the Salmon season the Derby is operated on a daily basis with prizes up to $500.00 for the largest Salmon and a weekly prize of up to $500 for the largest Lingcod of the week.An Annual Prize of $2,500 is paid out for the largest Chinook Salmon, $1,500 for the largest Coho Salmon and Lingcod, $1,000 each is paid out for the largest Halibut, and Albacore Tuna.Derby entry is only $5.00 and tickets are sold at every Charter Service and at the Derby Booth. When you check in, ask for more specific details. Derby ticket purchases are limited to people fishing on licensed charter boats. Derby proceeds are split between prizes and funding the association.
