New Ladder Tree Stand!
« on: August 21, 2013, 09:24:53 AM »
Got my new Ameristep 15' 2 Man ladder stand!  $99.97 and FREE shipping, through Walmart.com.  I spent a few hours yesterday assembling it, in our yard, with my daughter's help.

It's a cheap stand but it'll work for taking my daughter hunting.  Taking it out to the family property to set it up, this evening or tomorrow.

Nice! Get her up in there with ya when the time comes! Start her hunting early before mordern society teaches her otherwise!

Good stands for the money.  I have no problems with getting my girls to come with me in the same stand.  Just make sure they're strapped to the tree, and have something to keep their intention if you're going to be spending a spell up there.

Had several of those around the property for years that I took the wife or our oldest up into.  They aren't bad for the price and will last you several years.  Get some burlap or camo blind material and ziptie it around the arms and shooting rest and you're concealed from the shoulders up

She's actually the reason I went with the two man style.  She absolutely insisted!  She's more excited than I am...

One person could do it but it'd be a heck of a lot easier with two.

Got the same deal last year and used it to kill my first deer. My only gripe is its not as high as I would like. Another 5ft section I'd be happy. But the height is good for children since its not frighteningly high.

Had several of these set up in Missouri and I bought and added an extra section on ours.  They were effective.  My father in law is still using them there.

I got the stand set up a couple days ago.  While one person can do it, I'd really recommend having a helper.  I assembled the stand in my back yard, which was much easier than had I done it in the woods.  Of course, you'll need a pickup or large SUV to haul it in.  We have a Suburban so that wasn't an issue.

Once out in the woods, I attached the ladder pieces.  Getting it to the tree and standing it up, by myself, wasn't an issue at all.  However, climbing up it, with no one to hold it steady, was an issue...lol.  I'd have much rather had my strong son and future son-in-law to steady it for me!  Once you get at least one strap tightened up, it's rock steady.

My daughter was pretty nervous climbing up it, the first time.  With a little more practice, she'll feel a lot more comfortable.  Next Friday evening we'll be out there for more climbing practice.  We'll climb up there early evening, with my camera, and sit until dark.  Saturday morning, we'll climb up before daylight, again with the camera.  That'll give her practice getting to the stand and climbing it, in the dark.  Hopefully, come next Sunday morning, we'll be ready to hunt!
