Military guy, moved here last year and my second season bow hunting.  Came across some land not far from home (Nine Mile) and wondering if anyone has hunted around here and if it's worth it to look into. Planning on heading to IEP land for early archery but wouldn't mind staying closer to home if it would be worth my time.  Not looking for trophy bucks, any venison would do.

Lots of good private out that way but hard to get access.  I'd knock on some doors.  Tons of deer up the road from Tum-Tum to Deer Park.

Public land in there isn't bad but the private has all the feed.

Not there, but I used to hunt GMU 130 quite a bit before moving away from the area and could offer some places that are somewhat close to you.  PM me if I can help

I have seen sheds between 70-112" from that area and know of a 188" buck taken with a bow

Plenty of venison there and some real dandy bucks as well.   Some decent elk there too in a couple spots.

From what I hear looks like most of the public land around is used for target shooting. I would think this would limit the number of deer that hang around on those parcels. Am I wrong in that assumption?  Most of the big deer upon all speak of in private land?

I used to hunt on a military base and the biggest bucks were always killed behind the shooting ranges (when they were closed of course) and inside the impact zone.

Good news is target shooters don't go very far off the road usually. Now you know where to go.

I'm curious why this close to the season you wanna start checking out another spot. Why not stick to the other 2 or 3 areas you have posted asking about.  :dunno:
