early archery toutle bull tag
« on: August 27, 2013, 06:33:29 PM »
so I got drawn for the early archery bull tag and unfortunately only was able to put in one day of scouting this last weekend. Ive never been to this area otherwise and just wanted to see if anyone has any tips for this years early archery hunt. I know with the land closures ill probably be stuck up in the DNR land but I have my mt bike all set up if the fire danger is lifted. Any tips are welcome thanks ya all! :)

If you cant get to the 4100 on Weyco land you will see elk in the cuts feeding.  The 2710 on State land is also a good bet as well.  I had that tag two years ago and saw a ton of elk.  A lot of good state land to hunt for sure.  The elk were almost always feeding in the clear cuts in the AM.  Glass and move, glass and move.

dad drew the bull and cow tag 2 years ago. I saw myself "I was just helping him" 2-4 6 points and up. 3 ish little rag horn 3-5 points and a few spikes. and ATON of cows. that was just me. My dad shot at 2 6 points and a 5x6 i think but missed. he ended up shooting a spike.  dont really know how to explain the areas. but there are a ton of elk in the toutle! and if you put in your work, you will have shots, garrentteed! best advice, once they open Weyco. drive the logging roads super early, look for valleys with clear cuts and large timber, bino them. you will see heards, then its just putting on a stock!
