East Okanogan scouting trip
« on: August 27, 2013, 04:17:21 AM »
Took a 5 day weekend over to Bonaparte Lake Resort for a little R&R and a whole lot of scouting for my late Whitetail tag. It was very green over there from the valley floors all the way up to the border. Most Creeks still had some flow and saw several doe/fawn combo's. Even saw a few twin sets of the mule deer variety. I focused most of my attention North of 20 and to the eastern side of the unit and saw deer at all elevations mixed evenly between the cattle. Took a trip over Aeneas creek on the way back out and it was really green there too. Conditions look good and it was cooling off nicely, should be a good fall. Save a big whitey for me, I have a second Whidbey Island tag to fill during general season.

Expect a fair amount of people over there. There are some pretty die hard hunters that hunt that area and a few shady characters. Area has been known to have midnight hunters. Good luck.

The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.

hunted the lake about 4 years ago, was invited to stay at "richards" camp, cool folks, hunted hard, i swear i was the only one in the woods, got so i could indentify hunters just by vehicle sound, had some cool sneak up on moose and pilated woodpecker events, hunt for 3 hrs never make a sound, one twig under foot off goes the monster, i agree lot of pressure, but more traffic than running into somebody in the woods, didnt kill anything, mostly bad attitude, some of you may remember the white ford at the top of 20, yea the upside down one, kinda put a damper on the season
