Archery bear! *Added pics!*
« on: September 04, 2013, 06:41:07 AM »
Yesterday, opening day of my bull tag, I got a bear. I sat down in my blind area for the evening. Out through the trees this bear just comes strolling through. I drew back and made a noise for him to stop. He was 25 yards away. I let an arrow fly and my arrow only went 10 yards! The bear didn't budge and just stared at the arrow. I couldn't believe I was getting a second chance. I was shaking so bad I could hardly knock another arrow out of excitement. Was still wondering why my arrow didn't go anywhere. I shoot again, same thing! This time the arrow kinda skipped and went right next to the bear. He started to move back a couple steps. I realized what was wrong! I was resting the bottom of the bow on my knee and it must've been affecting the string. I calmly got another arrow, let it fly and WHACK! He took off up the hill. I gave him some time, then went looking. They don't leave much of a blood trail. On this huntwa I read where people say bears make a weird noise when they die. Well I heard this odd noise. Went near the area and found the bear! He was hung up on a fallen over tree stump. I got my first bear, with a bow too! Last year I got a bobcat with my bow. Seems like I have good luck for getting these hard to get animals but can't get a deer or elk! Haha.

Congratulations.  I shot one with my bow while elk hunting many years ago as well.  Good lesson on the knee interference.

Good job.  Seems the guys in tree stands and stationary blinds have the bears dialed in.   :chuckle:
