Hit List Buck Down!

I posted some pics of this guy a couple weeks backs. After finding him and taking photos of him this summer, I tracked down the land owner and after a series of phone calls and texts over a 6 week period, I finally got permission to hunt his land.
Every evening I'd shown up to take photos they deer were feeding in the same area, in some tall yellow grass next to a corner of alfalfa in a large field. This buck isn't a giant and isn't the biggest I've killed, but his tall tines and sweeping main beams had won me over. I had to work on the 1st, went bear hunting on the 2nd and when the action was slow (food dried up, etc) I decided to come back and hunt this buck, which we'd named Jack Sparrow. When I contacted the land owner to tell him I was coming to hunt, he told me another hunter had set up a blind right where I wanted to hunt, wounded a doe and then killed a different deer. (He was very disgusted by the careless nature of this fella, and was hesitant to even let me hunt, but had already told me I could so he gave me one chance.)
I didn't know how much the other hunter had disrupted the scene, and didn't have an alternate plan, and decided to stick with the original idea of putting my blind 70 yards from the L-shaped field corner I'd seen the deer in (and where the other guy apparently had set up.) There wasn't a deer to be seen, but I had great wind (coming from the NE when it usually came from the SW) so I decided to wait it out, for better or worse. 1/2 an hour later, deer started to appear on the far side of the alfalfa field, 600 yards away, and I figured I was out of luck. I said a quick prayer asking for blessing, and sure enough, they turned my direction and started RUNNING across the field, right at me. There was one buck, a little bigger than Jack Sparrow, that passed my blind at 53 yards, but I had my heart set on ol' Jack and that was a little too far for me to shoot anyhow. I thought my luck had run it's course, as my buck wasn't in the group. Around 15 minutes later, he came out, across the field and started feeding our direction. After what seemed an eternity, he walked in front of my blind, downwind, with sun at my back, I drew back and had to stop him for the shot. Moment later he was laying in the field 200 yards out.
I couldn't believe it - it was my first day out after deer for the 2013 season, and I'd just stuck the only buck I'd even put on a hit list. I thank the Lord for blessing us. We now have a freezer full of bear and deer meat, and it's only early September.
This was also my first velvet buck.

Cool deal.
Glad the land owner gave you a chance.

Thanks! Yeah the land owner was really happy with the experience and told me that he is going to be cutting everyone else off in the future, but that I'll still (probably) be able to hunt - best possible scenario, in my experience!

Great deer don't forget to take care of your landowners there is allot of chores around a decent sized farm, and help around the farm is far more appreciated than most things imo. Good way to keep those doors open for future seasons.
