unlucky me...
« on: September 05, 2013, 09:19:32 PM »
So my vacation for modern firearm deer season was denied. New blackout dates for vacation to take effect this year. So only after work hunting for me this year.  :bash:  anyone have any ideas close to the Yakima area. Was considering wenas area but not sure after that fire how well that would work out. I usually hunt the cowiche area but these are all day hunts up that way.

Don't know the area, but just start scouting any chance you get.

Iv'e always wanted to hunt the rivers. There are nice bucks in the fred meyer area and from union gap to zillah.  You could creep around with a bow or shotgun down yhere for a few hours. You still have time to make a baitpile to hunt over.  its close enough to hit after work in october.

I believe the river area falls under no hunting zone because of the green way.

unlucky me...

Ya my company does the same thing. Blackout dates from sept-dec for the holidays. Just do what I do every year.

I told my employer that hunting is my passion. It helps feed my family and I live, work, plan all year and invest $$ in my gear. It's only second to God and my family. So not being able to go means I don't get to do what I love, which is what makes makes me who I am. So for me. there is no job in the world that could keep me from doing what I love to do. They get me for 8-10 hours a day and they can not control "MY TIME".  My vacation time is "MY TIME", and I will go when I want, where I want, and with whomever I want. So they can schedule me if they like, but I sure as hell won't be there. When the seasons open, my job takes the back seat.....period!!! They want to fire me for it?? Go ahead....lose the best guy you have. I was looking for a job when I found this one. Wouldn't even take me a full day to get another one. Would I feel bad? Nope!!!! Why would I want to work for a company that wants to keep me from doing what I love???

The kill is the satisfying, indeed essential, conclusion to a successful hunt. But, I take no pleasure in the act itself. One does not hunt in order to kill, but kills in order to have hunted. Then why do I hunt? I hunt for the same reason my well-fed cat hunts...because I must, because it is in the blood, because I am the decendent of a thousand generations of hunters. I hunt because I am a hunter.

when I was interviewed for my current company, I too informed the hiring manager/owner the same.  when I submitted my oof (out of office) times for October and November to the supervisor he stated no way was I eligible for time off.  well I politely asked that he verifying this with the owner.

Fast forward a few days and  I was informed my time off had been approved, and know getting more and more questions around hunting and everything related to.

Yep
When I was offered the job I have now, I was self employed. Told the people making the offer that I was accustom to taking 10 days off during hunting season. No problem they said . 18 years later I have never been questioned once or ever missed a season.
Leaving oct. 2 be back Oct.23 this year.

Yep, pretty much what the owner and I talked about, can I be replaced sure but like said I was looking for a job when I was offered this one and have no problem finding another one other than one as close to home as this one is.

That sucks about your vacation.....I've never been denied....always taken a week off....next year I'll have 3 weeks vacation...lots of hunting to be done...my boss is an elk hunter so not much needs to be said to him....he's giving me extra time off to be a pack mule for my buddy that drew a tag this year

Archery season down here would be my only issue as I run our grain facilities and buy the grain. Our harvest is late enough it'll kill the first part of the season, no way around it. Probably will never get to hunt antelope in OR if I stay in this industry. But I knew that going into it.

So I hunt the general rifles and then go into another state for later seasons and different animals.
