glock 21
« on: September 12, 2013, 11:02:36 AM »
So I have been kicking my feet going to pick up a pistol and Im going to buy a new glock 21. I have shot a few glock 19s and one 21 and like how they shoot and how simple they operate.  Im going to spend 700 bucks on it and was wondering what upgrades would be worth putting on the gun? I want to use it has home defence and as my daily carry. Also any kind of holsters work well for cc?

Thanks

$700 is too expensive unless you're getting other stuff with it. It's also a gigantic gun for an every day cc gun IMO unless you're a big guy, and even then it would be tough to conceal.

I was going to buy a fs92 but they are to big. Im a not a monster but Im a pretty decent size guy. Would a shoulder holster help  keep it out of sigh?   I want to get some upgrades. maybe night sights and a lone wolf barrell so I can shoot lead. But im not sure thats why I asked.

I wanted to get a gp100 but again its going to be hard to carry.

I'd look hard at the Glock 23 for a cc gun. It's .40 S&W but it's a perfect size. Glock doesn't offer a .45acp in that frame size for some bizarre reason. Anyway... That 21 with double stacked .45 rounds is humungous. I'm 6'4" and 225 and my Glock 22 is too big to comfortably CC in my opinion. The 21 will be slightly bigger than that or the 19 you said you shot.

I think the upgrades you mentioned would be great. I think there's a recoil spring you can add to it as well as an extended mag release that are also nice to have.

If you want a .40 I’d suggest the G27.  Then get a G23 magazine and a filler piece for it and you’ll have a subcompact and a compact just by switching mags.

On sale now at Cabelas $569.99

Downfall is the 27 is too short a barrel. Cant hunt with it if wanted to unless ordered a longer barrel. I own a g20 10mm. I love it, yes its a little big. But you can still conceal it. I have a blackhawk holster and imop I think its the best all around holster. Durable for the outdoors.  I also bought the under armpit holster for it and the blackhawk mounts to it. I like that you can take the gun anywhere and can field strip it with ease. I just torn mine down and installed a 3.5 lb trigger. Buffalo bore makes some pretty heavy loads for it.

21 for CC? well its gunna feel like a brick take, this from a 6'1" 225lb guy that carried and HK USP .45 for a couple years. it got old fast, but each there own just my  :twocents:.

Anyways Glocks are amazing guns, they are one of the #1 firearms company's for a reason, so the only "mod" I would do is the Crimson trace laser grips and or Night sights. Otherwise leave it alone, don't mess with springs or guide rods or anything else unless it comes from Glock. if you have to play with it I personally also like the lighter triggers and extended controls from the 34/35's, maybe not the mag release for CC it may poke you, but definitely the extended slide release, once again Glock only. also only buy Glock mags, kinda pointless having a super reliable gun and put cheap mags in it.

for a holster I like the nicer kydex holsters or a nice leather one from Galco. Also get a good belt its gunna be heavy.

I know you maybe sold on this gun for CC so please don't take this as me trying to talk you out of it but I got just a quick story. I had close friend who asked me about a EDC gun and I gave him some pointers (taking in size, weight, ways to carry it, ect.). he kinda ignored me and went and bought and XD "compact" .45, I put it quotes cause its really not at all. I warned him after about 2 months of carrying it he would start leaving it in the car, and after about a month of that he would leave it at home all together and buy what I recommended him to buy to begin with. sure enough he bought my LCP about 4 months later lol.

so like I said not trying to talk you out of it just make sure your ready to have to "dress around" it every day. keep us posted and Carry on

I agree 21 is too big for an every day carry. I have a 20 chambered in 10mm, LOVE THIS GUN!! but i cant cc with it, so i let every one know i have it by houlstering it on my hip. I have the black hawk houlster and like it. It locks it in place and only when you push the release button will it allow you to take it out.

When thinking of a gun to cc, you should think about where you want to put it. you should get a size that you can hide on your body.

I say what ever you want.  The glock 21  was my duty weapon and everyday carry weapon.  I used alevel one off-duty hip holster and it did stick out but I ddidn't mind and when was questioned I had credentials to go with it.  I would rather have stopping power as well as accuracy than short range compact but again that's my opinion.  I was always questioned by other LE agencies because I carried a .45 but that's my preferrence. Do what you feel is right and comfortable.

I would never buy a new Glock.

have to agree with what one of the guys said about the glock23.. 13rds of .40, compact, empty weight is only like 21 OZ.. if you are dead set on it being .45- then look at the G30SF, (but it does not have a 4" barrel is that matters to you) The only things I added were a lone wolf aftermarket barrel so I could shoot my reloads, and night sights.

I own a gen III glock 21 that was retired out of Tacoma Police Dept. Amazing weapon, not so amazing size and weight. I stick it in my truck, but def not a CC on my persons. Like others have stated, aside for sights/optics I would not change a thing.

You should at least look at some other guns. The XD line is good and what's not to like about the M&P? G21's are big I'd almost guarantee you'll get sick of it for a carry gun. I love Glocks, they arent pretty but they are very worry free and reliable. That said, my G21 is  my least favorite .45. I'd choose an XD over it any day but if you really want a great gun you should look at a SIG p220. Now THAT my friend is an awesome full size .45 that would be a better choice if your gonna shell out 7 bills

I shot a g21 again. It is bulky but it fits my hands perfect. I hit a 8 inch pie pan at 25 yards 11 out of 13 and it was my 2nd time shooting one. Its just not going to be my cc.  It will come wiith me hunting and fishing and also willl be my home defect tool.      I was going to buy a springfield  1911 gi model but they are so back ordered its not even funny they took it off there site.
