Westport Tuna ( what to take)

Leaving tomorrow for my first Tuna experience out of Westport . How many coolers should I take?What do I do with all the fish? Was thinking of having them all looked then freezing and canning once I get home. Anything else I should take? Super excited can't wait.

You should call your guide and have him tell you how is the fishing been lately ..... depending on the info take x amount of coolers ..... last year we did 120 fish .....this year only 48 or so .....canning your fish might be quite undertaking ,just freezing 40 loins properly takes time ..... you have to trim off all the blood meat (if not done on boat) . Take clothes that you can throw away ....tuna aboard splashes blood and fat from meat is hard to get rid off ....
You'll see what I'm talking about when you process your tuna at home. Most of the time I'll take fish and give to my neighbors,friends etc.... there is no way I can eat all the tuna I catch + salmon,bottom fish and all  I share it with people .... And don't forget to take camera or smart phone ,rubber boots,rain gear and motion sickness pills....just in case . Good luck .....

How does taking the fish to a cannery work? Already have my rain gear , boots , throw away clothes and motion sickness patch.

The cannery will only take them whole. I'd say two coolers.

Don't take your fish to the cannery it's a rip off. I'd bring at least two big coolers

Could I get away with wearing an old pair of Danners. I wear my rubber boots 4-5 hours a day pouring concrete and they start to become uncomfortable.

On the boat now can't wait we leave at 1:30am. Caught just under 200 last time out.

Going out on a charter?  Enjoy the fishing.  I miss the blue water.

Yes I went on a charter. The fish completely stopped biting at 11:00 a.m.  We wound up with 14 on the boat and I landed 4 of those. Even not catching a huge amount of fish it was so much fun when we got into them . Will be going again next year.

We were on the Mr. Magoo out of Westport for a 2 night trip leaving last Wednesday we had 230 tuna on the boat by 4:30pm the first day of fishing a good skipper is a huge part of filling the boat.

.   I was on the Freedom out of Westport. Every trip before mine was huge numbers. The fish just went there.  Everyone he talked to were saying the same thing no fish biting. Even the commercial fishers where saying the same thing.

you went out on the last good day there will be no more tuna fishing the sea went to hell... 14 is a good number for this late in the season.. the fish are like deer and they get spooked easier.. but beside the point did u have a good time and would you do it again...

That is a little bit of a bummer report - I'm heading out with Darrell on one of Mark Coleman's boats next Saturday.  Will let you guys know how we do, but they are still  feeding decent reports out to us.

Hope the water settles down, Sat is looking not so good right now..  I was wanting to run to LaPush myself for some rock fish and Salmon, but thinking otherwise after looking today at the forecast.  Right now it is freaking nasty-nasty-nasty...

Touched base with Mark and he said Sat looks bad right now, but will make the official call on Thursday.  Pretty decent swell with some serious wind rolling through (30 mph by noon, 42 mph by 3 pm).

Just got the word - our Saturday trip Is cancelled on account of weather.   7 ft swell on 14 second period, with sustained winds up to 41mph by noon...
