Cooler weather coming.....how does it affect deer
« on: September 19, 2013, 07:38:22 PM »
Heading over to the glorious NE corner tomorrow morning for deer and bear.  How do you guys/gals think this cooler weather will affect deer movement.  Looks like 30% chance of rain on Saturday, 68 degrees, sunday is clear and cooler and then drops to 57 by Monday with chane of rain again.
With how warm it has been, will the deer move more during the day with cooler temps or ??

I would think they would eat more and drink less, but I have been in error before.   mike w

Hopefully finally get them moving, I'm in the SW corner of washington and they have just been bedded down all day long out here. Bottom line I don't think it can hurt. Worst case scenario I'm going to sweat a little less while hiking!

Definitely an advantage when hunting blacktail.  Muledeer I have not seen much change other than they tend to not bed as close to water as they might in higher temps.  I have not hunted early season whitetails so on that I really can not give any advise.  huntnnw would be the guy I would be asking about that.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

i dont know about the cooler weather getting them to move more during the day,but i can tell you that every day here im seeing lots of whitetails running around well before dark.  can see 10 - 30 any given night at some local alfalfa fields by 6pm, many of them bucks.  almost ran over a real bruiser 10pt at about 3pm yesterday on a logging road.  ill sure be happy to get some rain and colder weather tho.

I notice more doe and young buck activity in the mid morning and early evening.

I don't notice it at any other time of day or with older bucks.   :twocents:
