Chukar and the Grand Ronde
« on: September 29, 2013, 10:43:24 PM »
Anybody hunt the Grand Ronde for Chukar before?  Looking to put together a trip over there and need some suggestions where and how to gain access to the hills.  Also, where is there motels or cabins to stay at?  Thanks guys.

Hotels would be in the valley (Lewiston/Clarkston). I think Field Springs State Park has cabins but I'm not positive about that.

There are some cabins about halfway between Heller's Bar and Asotin, can't remember the name off the top of my head.  I think it's a church camp that does rentals.

Would love to hunt there sometime.  I've only been there once, on a summer steelhead float trip, but the country was very similar to the John Day, which has been excellent for me for chukars.

hunted there last week.  Hunted around the game dept land past hellers bar.  The hillside burned this summer and saw no birds in that area.  Hunting there for the last 25 years or so, first time ever I didn't see birds there.  Hunted from the top down so was able to cover most of the hills.  Maybe next year.
