I personally have seen snowmobilers in there in the winter chase and harass wintering elk, so closing this down will help those animals a lot IMO. While yes, its an inconvenience for many hunters who have hunted and camped up there, it will add a large roadless area to a lower shrub steppe environment, something we have very little of in this state. I think this could be a very good thing for people willing to work a little. Some great ground up that valley.
Well, here's a question nobody here has addressed:How much is the USFS spending on this "decommissioning" project? They're taking out two bridges, recycling asphalt from the road they are tearing up, pulling out a bunch of culverts, yada yadaYou think that's cheap? Doesn't anybody understand they could likely fix the road with the same money? This is just another lockout of the public from public land. We own that land! For people who are concerned about snowmobilers harassing elk... turn the b@$tard$ in. Harassing wildlife is a crime. I am fed up with the small fortunes being spent to "decommission" roads. It's ACCESS people.
Good point Dave!!!!! The road is not that bad was up there a couple weeks ago.
The little rattlesnake is a useless road as it is. Why fix it if you don't need it? I will be happy to hike in. The fishing will only get better.I think the wildcat 1306 rd should be higher priority to open back up. That is where they log the most and it provides acsess to the se part of 356.
