Today's work at the grinder.

Just a simple straight blade. The blade is 5.25" and handle is about 4.5" and the steel is .157 thick. I still need to take the bevel just a tad higher.

A file will make for a fine knife, but you will have to anneal it grind your edge and then re harden the blade to make it last.
If not it will be to brittle at the handle and partially annealed at the blade.

Yup, you are right. That is why I annealed the file first

All by hand. I draw out what I basically want on paper then transfer it to the steel. Then just start grinding and make changes as I go.

I've been a lot of things over the years but never a "professional" fabricator. I just tinker around with stuff these days, just do it for fun.

Heat treated, tempered and ready for a handle. Have to go get some epoxy for that. Also this is what I sketched out on paper today.
