Thinking about trying something different. Satsop?
« on: October 10, 2013, 05:04:21 PM »
Thinking about trying the Satsop unit for modern firearm. Never hunted there but thinking of heading out there this weekend and giving it a shot. Anyone willing to share some info, it would be greatly appreciated. Probably won't get a response because I know how most guys are about guys asking for advice but its worth a shot  :chuckle:

I took my son in there for late muzzy for a couple years. There are deer in there. Quite a few. More hunters than what I figured. Imagine its even busier for modern.
Lots of gates, but the way the road systems run together its easy to get aways in somewhere and find guys who came in a shorter way- or drove in an open gate on the other side. Hunted mostly the 200 near west fork. KId missed a nice 4x. If it helps...

There are more guys in there this week scouting than I seen all last modern season combined. It really turned me off from hunting the into.....and I live there.  :bash:

You can really tell a lot of tree farms shut their gates and started charging.

Talked to the local Indians last year and they are in there for weeks prior to our season nailing animals left and right. Went by one of there houses and saw a sight I wouldn't believe unless I was there. Also went to hunt there two years ago and saw bag loads of hides and carcasses piled high on the opener of archery and a whole truck load of oysters dumped. Good amount of land and decent amount of animals but going down hill. Lots of general public poaching to so I believe it won't be long before access permits are given.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

The land is already locked down all year except during hunting season, weather permitting. Its just hard to hunt, thick thick brush, the open areas are nothing but salal so sneaking around is pretty hard to do.

There's pretty serious talk that green diamond will be charging soon as well.

I can't imagine the Indians doing too much damage the last couple weeks. July and August maybe, but still I don't think they take all that many.

The Satsop is definitely over run with road hunters for rifle season, that is for sure.

They're supposed to start the permit fee next spring. The price is ridiculous too  :bash:

The ones that I know for sure about is around the Smith creek and North river , but probably everything from the nooch to willapa. There are new gates up everywhere.

Permits for parking at gates too, or just if you drive in? If they make it permit for drive in, that's  the best news I've heard in awhile!

Honestly don't know that detail. But since Hancock started charging for walk I'm access.....I'm sure its on green diamonds plate too.

I'm actually excited for the pay to play access. Just hope I can afford it before the permits sell out. I moved out here for the hunting it would suck to not be able to access the land via vehicle.

Permits are to be on the property, walk or drive
