Black Wolf in South Pend Oreille County Wa
« on: October 14, 2013, 07:57:15 AM »
After a frustrating elk season where I hunted for days without hearing an elk bugle, I finally get elk photos on my cam.  But this wolf was right with the elk.

The elk (with wolf in tow) showed up in October.  A sad sign of things to come.  I am posting a photo of a coyote to illustrate the size of the wolf.

They have devastated that area.  Its where I spend a great portion of my fall.   I haven't seen a black one yet.   There was a pack of 12 of them as much as I could tell.   There has been some tribal pressure on them.  I haven't been back to check on things lately.  I guess I will see in a couple weeks.  They have HAMMERED the muledeer.   Whitetails are holding their own, elk have all but gone silent.  Even moose seem to be down.

:yeah:
went to one my favorite mulie haunts in 113 and didn't see even a doe or fresh tracks. guy I ran into said he saw 2 does earlier in the day. last week I did see a mulie doe and fawn on the rez which is rare, after having lived here all my life and only seen mulies this low in the spring and NEVER on the valley floor was a shocker. an old guy at work wondered out loud when I told him about it, "wonder if it has anything to do with the wolves?"

to clarify my statement from earlier, we saw many sets of wolf tracks and wolf scat along with the same guy telling us he met another guy who claimed to have seen 5 wolves that day (saturday)

My son and I cut several sets of wolf tracks in that same general area last weekend >:(.   Far fewer animals were spotted this year than in years past too.
