SUNSHINE AT NIGHT
« on: October 18, 2013, 08:38:21 AM »
This weather sucks! Blue skies and full moon at night. Seems like its like this every modern rifle season. I cant stand it. Hate this weather, at least for blacktails. >:(

I hear ya.  I have today off and decided to sleep in instead of going hunting.  I needed the sleep, but if it was raining outside I would have been up and out there first thing.  I just checked the long term forecast... it is going to rain soon... November 1st!!!  :bash:

-stupid question alert- So do black tails just not like the rain or something? I see a lot of threads complaining about hunting because of the weather  :dunno:

The blacktails are just so nocturnal when the weather is like this. They seem to lay tight during the day and hide. When it's nasty overnight or rainy they seem to do more feeding and movement in the daylight hours. That's my opinion anyways

I agree, I would like to just get the deer part of the program done so it doesn't interfere with elk season, but with this weather looks like late season might be the best option.
It was so bright the last few days when I would get back to camp, I didn't even have to bother with a flashlight.  :bash:  Then during the day hot and sunny, like mid 60's.  If I wanted to be hunting in a T-shirt, I'd go bow or muzzy.

It seems to be a trend over the last 6-7 years, nicer and nicer for western Washington hunting seasons. This weather is accepted for hunting the east side. But not the west side especially during modern firearm deer season.

I was stressing big time a out buying new rain gear for this season, after all the nasty September weather. Sure glad I didn't waste any money  :bash:  :chuckle:
But Sure wish I needed rain gear right now though.

Let me rephrase.... it's more TYPICAL for the east side.  :chuckle:

It's one of the main reasons so many of the westsiders go eastside.....if the weather keeps on being nice they might start coming back.  Bring on the rain.  :chuckle:

I certainly see more movement in nastier weather, especially from the vehicle. But this clear cold weather doesn't stop the deer from moving, just mostly that last half hour of daylight. Mornings are still good with how cold it has been. I haven't been having a problem seeing deer, just not the right ones :chuckle:

Just get up higher. I have spotted a lot of blacktail bucks bedded down in bushes or a small clumps of trees right in the middle of days like these. They will get up to take a leak every now and then giving you an even better chance to spot them. Could also try to get on top of a ridge and roll rocks into the thick spots.

I actually seen quite a few bucks by tossing big rocks off steep ridges. Never connected on a buck yet but in due time I will get one using this method.

Seen 2 nice bucks today at 1pm chasing a doe. Neither held still long enough for a shot. Just long enough for me to pee my pants  :yike:
