bucket list ducks
« on: October 22, 2013, 09:40:21 PM »
i saw the thread before this 'duck bucket' and thought was a bucket list topic. was not so figured id start one. on my hitlist for wa birds, id like to get an old squaw, a eurasian widgeon, a blonde bird( had one come into a cove we were hunting last year, literally 20 mins after telling my hunting partner how much i wanted to shoot one, but was on other side and too far to shoot. no way to ambush either. fun to watch, most dont even get that) and some sort of hybrid. what else you guys have on your list

King eider

I saw how they hunt eiders when I was at St. Paul island offloading... They tow a dozen decoys behind a duck boat, let the decoys gain a lil momentum, then stop the boat and let the decoys keep swimming, the ducks will drop right into the decoys.... It's really like duck trolling, but in the Bering sea, and it's 20 below

I'd like to get a harlequin, eurasian widgeon and a cinnamon teal as far as Wa ducks go. As for geese I'd like to get a specklebelly (whitefront) and a neck banded canada. Where I work, south of Southcenter Mall, a bunch of cacklers have shown up in the last couple weeks and hang around with all the honkers that have been there all summer. Two of the cacklers are sporting bright yellow neck bands along with leg bling. Its really making me burn having to watch those little guys everyday.

I need a drake cinnamon to finish off all my wa birds.  Then I need my eiders and the tree ducks and a Mexican duck to finish off my North American slam.

I've taken 4 hybrids so far, best one a can/redhead drake, so no need for more.  But a Eurasian widgeon is probably at the top of the list followed closely by a Harly.  A drake cinnamon would be great but most likely have to go to NV, NM or maybe Utah for one of those.

There  are at least 4 guys on here that say they want a harly.  So would any of you guys be interested in trying to put together a harly smackdown?  May get some other bucket list birds as well.

So far I have not managed to get any duck that looked good enough to mount...but I would love to bag a male wood duck to get mounted some day.

This year I'm looking for an Old Squaw, a Scoter Slam, another Harlequin, Barrows & Common GE, and a Eurasian Wigeon.

I've shot Wigeon, Redhead, Shovelers, Gadwalls, Wood Ducks, Ruddys, Bufflehead, Harlequin, Pintail, Mallard, GWT, Cinnamon Teal, Lesser Scaup, Canada Geese, Snow Geese.  Some of these were in CA, others here in WA.

The mounts I've got are Mallard, Canvasback, Redhead, Wood Duck, Gadwall, and a couple of Canadian Geese.  A taxi in CA screwed up my Cinnamon Teal/GWT mount so he ended up not getting paid for it.  He screwed up my drake spoonie too.  Needless to say I don't refer him to anybody.

Got a picture of that Canvasback/redhead hybrid? Never seen one. I would be interested in seeing one.
