Good Blacktail encounter tonight
« on: October 25, 2013, 07:26:27 PM »
Posted up, Hundred yards of road either direction, look to my right... DEER! 45 yards away staring at me fir limb blocking antlers, gun across my lap, binos in the grass next to me pull em up slowly to find out whats growing out of his head  :bdid: starts walking across the road, GOOD BUCK, walk turns into quick trot, raise my gun, let out a "MERP!" no interest. He bounded into a gully never to be seen again. I did get to hear him blow that loud exhale whistle they do when  distressed for a couple minutes though, pretty cool. Just thought I'd share my first 13' buck encounter.

Good luck fellas, shoot straight.

I've had this same scene play out 3 times this week. Its frustrating that they pop out at the exact time you're least ready to take a shot.

I'll get flamed for this, but if there is a deer standing there and you are not simply scanning the area there is no reason for you to look through your binos, gun up, look at head through scope, crosshairs on vitals, BANG!  Much cooler story than I missed an opportunity.  Glassing an area=binos, looking for horns=scope.

No flaming from me.  If I know I am looking at a deer it most often gets scoped for further inspection.

This would work, except for the fact I had iron sights.
