Huckleberry Bull
« on: October 28, 2013, 01:02:05 PM »
Finally got around to posting some pics from my moose hunt earlier this month.  Maybe I just like to let the suspense build.   ;)  Anyway, it was a fun hunt, passed up several bulls, and shot this one on day six.  I'd like to thank those who dispensed advice like Brian (pendoreilleadventures) and Jason (finnman).  Also, a thanks goes out to ridgerunner for selling me his moose call.  The cabin in one of the photos is owned by a friend of a friend who was gracious enough to let us stay there.  It is awesome that there are still people out there who would be willing to do something like that out of the kindness of their heart.  He wouldn't even take anything in return, but there will definitely be some salmon or steelhead heading his way.  The live bull in one of the photos was a 50"+ bull that I passed up on day two.  Saw him three different times that day.  Once, he passed by me about 5 yards away, grunting like heck and all agitated, and came within 6 inches of stepping on the wheel of my mountain bike that was laying beside the road.  That would have been a bummer.

Thanks, rr.  I didn't use your call on this bull, but did on several others, including one on day two that probably would have scored better than mine.  I was so close to him in the brush it was a little unnerving, especially because he didn't seem too happy that there was another bull so close to his cows.  Fun stuff.

Good luck and be patient.  My hunt could have been over very quickly, but I waited too long for a permit to let that happen.  Let me know if you need any advice.
