Uneven Tires
« on: November 02, 2013, 03:07:54 PM »
So I went to a nationally known tire company to have my tires filled. They told me I have a nail in one of the tires. they are kind enough to patch the tire. So I say sure. Sitting in lobby and Hajj comes in and says, "Well sorry, in taking the tire off your rim we tore it and its destroyed. we're going to put on a new one for free." I say "Hey no problem, accidents happen--that's how I was made." They recommend replacing the other tire, which I would have to buy.

The other tire on that axle has 2/3+ of its life left, whereas the other is brand new. The truck is about ten years old and I theorize that the spare tire might be the original that came with the vehicle or at least much older. IDK how often a spare tire should be replaced with the compounds breaking down and all.  Its 110 degrees here in the summers. I was thinking I could replace the other side tire, have the spare taken off, and put the replaced tire in place of the spare just to keep things fresh.

Any opinions? Should i just take the tire and be happy and not concern myself with even wear? thanks.

I think most people over think tires. Since you have a spare I wouldn't worry about it. Most people rotate thier spares into thier rotation pattern for max wear. Keeping the sunshine off your spare will make it last longer, but make sure you keep it aired up so its not flat when you need it too.  That tire store did you right so i would go back to them and buy your next set form them.  :twocents:
