Hunting Dillon Montana
« on: October 30, 2013, 07:13:04 PM »
Hey guys, this year i am very fortunate enough to be able to hunt Montana for deer.  I was able to get 9 days off of work and get to spend them all in Montana in search for a nice Buck.  I have never hunted out of state but have always wanted to hunt montana.  I would appreciate any advice for good areas to start.  thanks guys  PS- pics and story to come  :IBCOOL:

I lived in Dillon for two years it is an awesome part of the country. Tons of opportunity on public land. Have you looked at the block management maps on the mfwp website? You can order a paper set for free I got mine in less than a week. You can also just look at it on the computer. Its been a long time since I have been there but I would hit the coulees to the north of Clark Canyon Reservoir. And check out block management area 27 the northern most portion. When I lived there the Matador was closed but you could walk through it to access the BLM land on the other side of it. Now it is open. No matter what the Blacktails (mountains) always held good bucks. Have a great time I hope you kill a monster.

I broke down there on my way to Wyoming. While I was waiting for the tow truck,I got my binos out and spotted six deer from the highway.

Likely whitetail if you saw them from the highway.
