Whole Coyote
« on: November 04, 2013, 03:44:05 PM »
Going to Montana this week to hunt deer. We are also going to try a little coyote hunting between the deer hunting. My son really wants to try and shoot a coyote. If he gets lucky and gets one I want to tan the hide.

So I have no idea how to skin a coyote to get a perfect hide without messing it up. Do you think Think I can just bring the whole coyote to a taxidermist and have them skin and tan it for me? or do they like everything skinned first?

Any taxidermist ever done this? What kind of ballpark cost do you think it would cost to get a coyote done?

Thanks

Of course they'll skin it for you. You don't want to ruin a hide.....

I've had mine skinned and now have a beautiful coyote rug.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

I bring the whole coyote every time thats the way my taxidermist likes it.
A remarkable experience is one where the pain is forgotten so quickly, the frustrations and struggles are forgotten the minute you’re done.

I can’t wait to do it the next time.

How much did you pay to get a hide tanned?

:yeah:
some hide buyers even prefer it that way so the hide is still good when they get it, rather than hacked up by less than experienced skinners.

Just skin it like you would for a bear rug or tube skin it. They are easy to flesh and salt. Just get all the meat off and as much fat off as possible then salt it with non-Iodise table salt.I am learning ever time I skin one, flesh and salt. I just sent my first fleshing and salting of a elk,2 deer and a coyote hide to the tannery in July. It should get here soon to see how I did. They charge 23.50 dollars and it goes down the more you send them.
