Need new shotgun

Broke my shotgun, what would be a good 12 guage gun for waterfowl at an afforable price? I just need some opinions, I have the Benelli Nova Pump, and the Remington 870 Express in mind.

870 would be my choice.

Either one will work fine, My B-law shoots a Nova I run 870's. The Nova feels clumsy to me, he likes it.
Pick them up and see how they feel, pick the one that feels the best.

I would go for the Nova. I think they feel better, and have a lot more features that an 870. I think it is a better gun for the $$. IMHO

Yeah, I was leaning toward the Nova, but I do agree it is a little clumsy. A friend of mine has the Nova and an 870, Ill have to shoot them to see what I like. It will take some getting used to, going from a semi-auto to a pump but the price difference is huge.

probably the 2 best pump guns out right now. its just whichever one you like more based on feel and look.
i love my nova, and my 870.

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.

I wouldn't buy a nova. You'll get better patterns from an 870 since it's a bigger bore diameter. The biggest reason for me though is that the Nova cannot be sized if it doesn't fit you, also the stock and reciever are one piece. If you break it somehow your screwed. Not that that would happen but what if. If you have to go Binelli at least go with the supernova. Also my friend bought one several years ago. The first time out in the field was very very cold. He got some splash on the bolt and the thing froze solid and would not shoot. Took it apart, dried it, another flock came in and click. Same thing. Maybe just me but that doesn't interest me at all. Also I know two nova owners and both shoot low left when at the patterning board. Again this doesn't interest me. Low left on a shotgun?
No thanks. When researching chokes there was a section on a website (I think Rhino not sure long time ago) but they verified the same thing.
That said it's Browning BPS all the way. It blows away any nova and any express 870. Largest bore diameter gives awesome patterns. Built like a tank. I own 3 and love them, was raised on the 870 and surely love them. But I've been around Nova's, mossy's, and expresses. BPS beats them all.
Nova's seem to be all the craze right now and they are fine shotguns but they just don't compare to a BPS or a 870 Wingmaster. Sorry. I firmly believe the only reason they sell so well is because they're cheap.
I don't think they suck, I don't think they're crap, I just think there's better to be had.

Thanks for the advice Gutpile. Only thing about the Nova is, that im on a somewhat of a budget right now and the Nova is pretty in-expensive. What BPS do you shoot because im noticing that they arent all that expensive, in the $500 range. If anyone had to reccomend a gun in that range wha would it be?

I like the Browning seems more finished too me, but the express is just a great deal, got a 3 1/2" mag for a little over $300. I think all 3 have steel receivers, you probably can't go wrong with any of them

I havd a 3 1/2 inch stalker which is composite. In fact someone had one in the classified section a while ago if you do a search. Another of mine is a 3 inch (hunter?) wood stock as well as a 10 ga. I love the bps. I really dont know what they sell for but i'd think less than 500. Good luck, let us know.

If you have a bi-mart near where you live, go there. They have the 870 express 3 1/2" for
289.00 every day, and sometimes their sales take them down to 259.00

I just got a 870 express, got it from a friend for $250.00, he had shot 1/2 box and sold it to me. He paid around $300.00 new. I like the gun, fits well, swings well. hard to beat the 870. I have had a couple of 870s they just seem to get better and better.

I vote 870, I have shoot alot more rounds in a year at work then most people do in a life time. Out of all the different guns we have used the 870's have taken the most abuse and not failed, the benelli's take a lot too but I just cant get use to the way they shot (low).
