All i'm gonna say on shooting a bull is if i'm along he won't be able to shoot because i'm gonna hold his bullets ! Really some of us guys get back into country that is flat hell to get and elk out of , there's no way i'm gonna go int one of those spots to pack out  a lil spike , but if it'sd a throphy animal and that's what it takes to get to him then i'm In .

I love how rt went from knowing very little about the elk or hunting them in this area to the elk whisperer... :chuckle:

Just a novice with 28 years in this same patch of woods.. I wish I could learn about elk quicker....
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

28yrs in the same patch huh?
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

2964Virtual Campfire / one last hunt with dad.......looking for some help..........
« on: October 06, 2010, 10:09:44 AM »
Howdy all,
Well Maybe this will get me somewhere. Maybe not... Not looking for honey holes just a few places to try.........
My dad is 74 and I am sure this will be his last hunt, He can no longer run, for that matter walk up and down the hills. So I have decided to hunt with him one last time (he says this will be his last) My goal is not really to get my animals, but stick with trying to get my dad both a deer and an elk. I would rather see the smile on his face one last time.....

anyway we are pretty new to the state and we will be hunting  GMU 346 Little Naches...... Modern Firearm...........

anyone have any tips, pointers, anything would help.....

thank you!!!!!!!!!!
PM ME IF YOU WANT.....................

I see where your coming from..  No big deal. 08 I hunted Rosies in Raymond. 2010 I think is when I drew the cow tag and hadnt been around at all..

No ego or bonus points for me but I know 346 very very well and have proved it several times over... Im always looking to learn also, the dsy we stop learning we might as well quit hunting!   Back on topic now?

When you start talking about quality of animals and not shooting spikes because of the quality of bulls in the are that's trophy hunting.  Is it not?  And to say that a hunter didn't do his job if he doesn't fill his branched bull tag is the biggest crock I've ever heard on this forum.  I guess you've never bow hunted.

Some hunters never kill an elk ....hell a cow could be a trophy to them  :dunno:  :twocents: :chuckle: :chuckle: Heck I will kill a big fat cow anytime I get the chance ....Backstraps are more important than those horns you may need to boil for a week before trying to chew on them  :tung:

And RT has only posted his opinion, not science. Like D rock said. He must have never bow hunted. Any notch is a trophy with a bow.

If the state gives out "any bull" permits because they want the branched antler bulls taken out and hunters are doing a disservice to general tag holders by shooting a spike that a general tag holder could shoot does the same thing hold true for cow tags and doe tags?  I am pretty sure a few of those tags, especially doe tags go unfilled because guys shoot bucks instead, in essence taking away a buck that someone else could have shot if the tag holder would have done his "duty" to the game department and shot the doe that they had a tag for.

I think if you get a tag it is your option of how to fill it or not.  Just my  :twocents:
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Every father should remember that one day his children will follow his example instead of his advice.
