Coast guard
« on: November 08, 2013, 04:30:38 PM »
I stopped cape D to cast a line for a while. No fish but that's ok. I watched the coast guard out in the surf practicing maneuvers. I know I would be scared to death out there. Thanks to all the men and women in the C G out there keeping us safe on the water.

I used to run the 44' Motor Lifeboats out of LaPush from 71 to 73, loved it. Brought a few lucky people back to their families.

Thank you for your service. My dad was a coastie back in the early 70's. He was on the cutter the diligence

It takes a special kind of person to jump out of a perfectly good helicopter into the raging sea to save a stranger. My hat is off to them.

Stationed at the Coast Guard National Motor Life Boat School at Cape D back in the 80s.  Some of the best rough water boat handlers in the world past through there for training.  Many of times I would check my shorts after training in the grave yard of the Pacific.

I went thru the school in early '72 while at LaPush then after the school and back at LaPush I would take the boat out in the surf and practice whenever I could. Those were damn good boats and they still are. Gives me goose bumps thinking about it.

My buddy spent a couple of years as a Coastie at Cape-D.  They go through some crazy crap out there!
