bad morning at tarbell
« on: November 09, 2013, 07:02:26 PM »
Discovery pass? No. Didn't know I needed one. Got this cute little dash sticker with my license, is that good enough? No, but here is a $99 ticket to help you learn...

So as I am driving out of this area I see 6 other rigs with green presents from the WDFW officer.

First time I heard this . . . nice guy though.

Curious where you were if you don't mind? Some areas have signs telling you that the pass is required. Sorry you got fined.

By the way, it's "discover" pass, not discovery.

Its getting pretty bad in WA with fees. Not to thread jack, but we have several different land access passes which was a ridiculous idea in the first place.

Im sure they have better things to spend their time working on.

I know what you are saying but here is the thing. WDFW got funding for about 2 Officers from the Discover Pass for enforcement of the Discover Pass. WDFW Officers work 171 hours a month, not 160. So essentially, WDFW Officers must combine for 342 hours of Discover Pass enforcement EVERY month statewide.

WDFW has to report to the legislature on this enforcement. Would look bad if WDFW gets 2 officers for Discover Pass enforcement, but are not doing it!

I'm glad they're enforcing it. I bought the pass for the second year now and it wouldn't be fair for those of us who do buy it if it weren't enforced. However I do feel sorry for people who are fined when they didn't know anything about it.

With Weyerhaeuser going to permit only access on their tree farms, along with other timber companies, the Discover pass sales will only be increasing.

I ran into a local goody goody up there and he has the number for one of the officers and he told me he has called them multiple times to let them know that people are parked up there without the pass. It is a crock of $**t about these passes and then on top you got local cowboys out there trying to help so it is only getting worse. Time to give my money to another state and let the hikers and bikers have washington. :twocents:

I quit using the resources that require a discover pass... Oh well they win. I already put out enough money to the state and every year they ask for more. I have to use my money wisely, i think they should to.

I have had enough.

Look at it this way, you can either pay the $30+ for the pass. Or pay the $99 fine for parking without the pass, or $203 for driving without it.

But guess what.. the fine money goes into the Discover Pass account! So those who are trying to "screw the man" are actually benefiting the state more by getting ticketed!

Is this something new? Last I heard was that the fines did not go back to anything associated with the DP.

Somewhat new. The legislature changed it in winter 2012 and it took effect in summer 2012. State Parks was the only agency that testified on the change, and they were against it. So now of every ticket written for the DP, 84% of it goes to Parks, 8% to DNR, and 8% to WDFW.
