Best ladies gun

So Im looking to find a new gun. Im looking for one that is affordable, lightweight and with limited recoil.  I've gotten a lot of advice on this, so now its up to my Hunt-Wa friend to put their in.

I like my 7mm08 however its heavy so I really cannot shoot it offhand.... if I did it again and was going to buy one I would probably buy a youth model just so i could shoot at least once or twice offhand.  of course I have practiced shooting off my own knee so much I dont worry quite so much about a rest. It also would be nice to not pack around such a heavy gun.  I was really recoil sensitive so a heavier gun helped I am now a little less worried about recoil in a hunting situation.  and for targets the ar's in 223 and 243wssm win hands down no recoil and fun...lol

Franchi 20 gauge for shotgun.  Semi auto simple, extremely light weight and adjustable action for light loads.  I have the wife shooting the 620 VS, but I think Franchi upgraded that gun recently.

Ruger 77RL - discontinued a few years ago.  Deer & bear .257 Roberts if elk 7 or 308.  Weatherby Youth a close second.  They both are a perfect balance between light enough for ladies to carry and heavy enough not to be too sharp on the recoil.  Both have the 20" barrel (way better than the 18.5" compact)  Add Sims pad if shooting the 7-08 or 308.  I would say Rem Model 7, but recently they seem to be real hit or miss on accuracy.  Find a proven good one and they are right there with the 77RL.

pistol - Lady Smith 38 or 9mm.  I actually prefer shooting my wife's Lady Smiths over my own guns.  Fun guns to shoot!  I did have the triggers polished, but I do that on all my handguns.

For the money it is a great Firearm.

My best advice though is to do your own research and to get out to a local store and find one that you are comfortable with. look at different ones. For the sake of the good lord, do not buy one just because he or she said too. You need to make sure you are comfortable with it, it is and will be a part of you when you are out in the forest with it.

My wife carries a Mossberg model 100 in 308. Light weight, and she has no problem with  the recoil. And if fits her real well. Will handle anything on the westside.

Find the one you are comfortable with and you will love it forever. Everyone has different opinions but only you know what you want, you will know as soon as it is in your hands! 

Since you will be in Western WA, I would stick with a 3x9x40 Scope. Again people will chime in on what scope to buy. Visit the stores and you do the research and look through all the scopes you want. You will find one you like that fits your budget.

If the rifle that you buy comes with a scope, I would stick with that for the first year. Those scopes are good scopes, not like they used to be a long time ago.

For example. The scope that comes with a rifle today is like buying a real good scope back a few years ago! Some will disagree with me, but maybe they are the ones who think expensive is better.

They do have a lot of good scopes in the $200 dollar range and even a few good ones in the $150 range. Only you know your budget. Stick with your feelings and try not to let others influence what you do or buy. Buy what you want and what you are comfortable with.

My wife is only 5-1 and a little over 100 pounds. She loves her lightweight Browning Medallion in 280 Remington. It will kill anything in WA and shoots pretty flat as well.

Take a look at the Ruger American. it comes it .243 win,7mm08, 308 win, 270 & 30-06.
It's a nice light rifle, recoil isn't bad, very accurate, I have shot them it 308, 270 & 30-06 and have shot groups under and 1 1/2" at 100yds. It is also under $400 is most places.

might be I dont know right off the top of my head I just know mine kicks less than a heavier 308...and I am a pretty big recoil weanie I wont touch a 30 06

My wife has a youth Remington 7mm-08.  She shoots it very well...the biggest factor for her was the weight...a full size gun was too heavy for her to control well.  Whatever caliber you choose I would recommend the smaller (even youth) guns so she doesn't have a heavy barreled gun or something that doesn't feel comfortable to her.  My wife killed her 5th buck in 5 years this year...a 290 yard shot.

If it was my wife, I would go with a "Youth" model Ruger or Winchester Model 70 in .243.

Already have one in .243 WSSM, but if she was a little flinchy, the .243 would be a better bet then what the .243 WSSM. It shoots flat, but has to some, an obnoxiously loud report.

My wife loves her Browning Composite stalker in 7mm-08. She has taken a few deer with it now, and it is very accurate, deadly and low recoil. Awesome cartridge.

my girlfriend has one and she loves it, she got it in 7mm-08  and quoting from the Nosler reloading manual, "the fact remains that there really is not a better all-around cartridge for hunting deer or black bear and with proper bullets the 7mm-08 does just fine for antelope, sheep and elk."
like others have said don't want to start a debate but the 7mm-08 is tough to beat in a good short action rifle for a lady or youth.

might daughter the 7mm-08 in the youth model, it cant weigh but a pound or so, it so lite, its a savage, its a tack driver to. it came with a cheap scope which id fine for a greeny, after taxes it was like 480. it kicks butt and my daughter is tiny

Didn't Annette from here on hunt WA blast her Bull moose with a 7mm-08 this year? The ability to hunt moose is one reason my wife went from a .243 to the 7mm-08 cause a moose hunt is on her short list of things to do. Now if she could just draw that tag....

My wife is 5'5" 110 , she has been killing lots of stuff with her Remington Model 7 in 300 WSM topped with a Leupold VXIII 3.5 -  10. Fits real nice , stock seems a bit shorter than other rifles. I reload so she is shooting pumped up 180 grain Hornady interbonds. She is not a recoil weenie though . If you want to shoot it your welcome too so you have a good idea what the recoil is like and how the gun feels . Shooting 150's or 165's might reduce recoil a bit .

:yeah:I AGRRE WITH CMONEY, MY DAUGHTER IS MAYBE 5 FT TALL AND 100 POUNDS SOAKIN WET MAYBE, she is 15 and can shoot her 7mm-08 all day and like i said before her gun weighs nothing. alot of times especially women become affraid of guns and its all because of recoil. goos ear protection and a gun that doesnt kick like a mule can be all the differance from becoming a huntress or not!!!! and if you want to even cut down more on the recoil go with an autoloader, you do have to worry about jamming but it cuts recoil in half. i would go with the bolt action.... good luck

If you would like to ruin a person, keep them from shooting or hunting, get them a gun that's unpleasant to shoot.

Bought my wife the Savage Lady hunter this year in .243 and she loves it.  Her next rifle will be the lady hunter in 6.5 creedmoor so she can hunt elk sized animal with it.  Without a doubt this is the best ladies rifle I have ever laid hands on.  I shot my wives .243 and placed two shots sub 1" at 300 yards.....I stopped there cause I didn't want to ruin a good group by shooting more. 

Look at the 6.5 creedmoor for all north american game.  It is an extremely accurate round with low recoil.

I too have shot my girl's 7mm-08 into tiny groups that I didn't measure but they were impressive even with me shooting it left-handed with that high cheek piece designed for a woman whacking me in the face every shot.  don't let that statement scare you though ladies, it's designed to be used by women who shoot right-handed and it sure fits my lady well and it reduces FELT recoil by fitting her well.

My first though would be a 260 Rem if you reload. If not I understand that the 7-08 is light in recoil. For the rifle, just look around and find one she like's and wouldn't mind carrying. Keep in mind that lighter weight always means more recoil with the same load. I have two light rifles, a Win Mod 70 Ftr Wt in 6.5x55 and a discontinued Rem 788 in 308. If your into deer and elk, I wouldn't go smaller cal than 264. Lots of people do well with the 25-06 and even the 243 but you don't hear from the people that failed with them. They just don't have heavy enough bullet's to suit me for elk.

Bug every friend you have with a rifle and shoot them.  Unlimited possibilities.  Light weight and low recoil is not easy.  You will find what suits you, keep looking.
