Do I need a new bow?
« on: November 14, 2013, 09:09:33 AM »
I've been shooting a PSE stinger for a couple years as a good starter bow. I wanted to see if I would like shooting/hunting with it. I was hooked from the first day. It's a bit on the loud side when I'm at the range comparing to other folks but has served me well. Do I really need to keep up with the Jones'.

I shot a couple Hoyts at Nock Point last week....wow what a difference.  :yike:

What would you do?

Thanks.

You need a new bow.

If you are at the Nock did you shoot a new Hoyt Charger? Great bow...bro in law just picked one up.

I shot the same bow for 15 years before getting a new one. Ever archer is different. First thing I would ask is the bow legal to hunt with? If yes then the next question is are you comfortable and accurate with it? If so I would give it a few years before changing your set up, high end bows get pricey really quick. But in the end its up to you. I know guys with old old PSE's that whack deer just as good I as do with my 2 year old bow. If the bow is safe, legal, and your good with it there is no real need to change. But there could be a want  :chuckle:

If you have the money, go for it.  Warning, once you get the bug it's hard to control it.

Yeah, if you've got it, then go get it. I'd love a new bow, but apparently having the house in proper condition is supposed to be a priority.  :dunno:

After you get a new bow, don't forget the new backup bow as well!

Whatever condition the house is when hunting season arrives is then proper condition at my house. Makes it a lot easier to manage the priorities that way.

I also have a stinger I bought three years ago and have taken 3 deer with mine. But I am definitely going to upgrade within the next few months. I purchased mine because it was cheap and didn't know if I would like archery hunting. Same as you I am hooked and decided it time to upgrade after shooting a couple of my buddies bows.

The carbon Element is pricey, BUT it will probably be the fastest ,smoothest and most comfortable bow you will shoot. Dont buy it or any other bow unless it feels good to you NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS

Do you "need" a new bow? Hmm, probably not, me neither, but I'm getting one anyways. My tomkat shoots hunting arrows in the mid 290`s and is relatively quiet, but man it feels like a boat anchor compared to the carbon knight.

I got a newer bow this year.. and still have my old bow as a backup.. I upgraded because there is a 40fps diff in rated speed between my old bow and my new bow..  how much difference will there really be in your new bow?? and yes a little quieter is always a good thing..
