I like to hunt the wildlife escapement areas that are gated, although I got my deer this year off one of the mainlines.  I do admit that this year seemed like  a lot more hunters than years past.

It really did, didn't it? I agree.

I agree also. Heading into the gate this morning we were in a line of at least 15 trucks :bash: and that was around 6:15 am. Can't imagine how many more were already in the gate and ahead of us.

You have to remember, we have lost half of Buckley to Muckleshoot, all of Eatonville unless you buy separate permit, and i swear some of those 'work permits' are hunting too, maybe im mistaken.  I think 1200 is way too many permits for the amount of land, it seems to have gotten more crowded every year for the last 5 or so.  I also think this year was worse in late season because so few guys got deer in the early season due to poor conditions.  Also, as the cost goes up, more guys will try to "get there moneys worth" and buy tags for the wife, etc and keep on hunting even after they tag out, nature of the beast unfortunately.

And to add to it there is not that many deer up there.  I hunt very hard, hike, bike, road hunt and glass a lot and I am lucky to find a few does in a day up there or zero during the day today.  And only does never any bucks.  My trail cameras say the same.  Very little amount of deer in my opinion after two seasons up here I am not impressed at all.  Yes there are way too many people up there also.

Congrats JC! Awesome buck!

There are some stud bucks on the tree farm. And a huge area to hunt. That said, I can't believe what meager amounts of deer sign we've found in most of South Kapowsin. Elk sign (and elk) tons; deer sign (and deer) few and far between.

And yes, it's pretty much all un-huntable reprod, or wide-open clear-cut. Not much for huntable timber left, imo

Clutch went out on my truck, so my son and I missed the whole 4 days of late buck. :bash: :bash:

Well went out yesterday with a buddy to help try and get his 9 year old son his first buck. Decided to go into Buckley gate and didn't see not one deer. We spent all day up there and saw a few trucks and that was it. Even did some walking and still didn't see a deer. Ooh well maybe next year!

There's a few bucks in there, I hate to say this, but I missed a BIG 4X4 on Saturday morning. This is the first time I've been on Hunt WA all week. I haven't wanted to even see pics of late buck deer. Still just sick that I missed, but I'll get over it. ( I hope )

my daughter shot her first deer in hancock, we hunt the scott turner side, i dont road hunt, i am always walking somewhere, well sneaking i guess, i saw some grouse and in 4 days of huntn, i saw a total of 8 deer, i passed on a small spike x 2pt, and a kid i have been taking, also his first year missed a stud of a buck, i so wanted to put that buck on the deck, but it was kellans first year huntn he is 13 or 14 and i get just as jacked up watchn kids get critters, sad to say he missed badly and he also missed a nice 2pt on halloween, i try to tell him the oh crap factor will play hell n you when your shootn at something alive. i have watched the numbers over the years dwindle big time on hancock, at now on the eatonville side they bumped it up to 300 permits and raised the price... it isnt even big enough to support the 200 permits and now they raise it to 300 and the price, UMM NOPE, i didnt renew, going back to public land, i gotta find a place that isnt to overrun that i can get back to camping in the walltent with my son and daughter and kellan, much more fun anyways than the madhouse of roadhunters that seem to be overrunning hancock...good luck all
