Broken "Vintage" Kershaw Alaskan Blade Trader Replaced
« on: November 26, 2013, 09:31:01 AM »
I just wanted to let those people that might have one of the old Kershaw blade traders (1098AK) lying around know that help can be had for these older knife sets.  A buddy of mine was helping me dress out a black bear I harvested back in 2001, in doing so he busted about a 1/4" off the regular knife blade.  So needless to say, it sat around in a drawer for 12 some years.  Finally, I sent mine in to Kershaw on the 5th of November and received it back on Saturday November 23rd.  The only cost incurred was for me to ship the old knife set to them.  I was called by phone from their customer service rep to verify if I had any sentimental value attached to my old knife, as they have changed the closing mechanism on the newer models any no longer carried the old style parts anymore.  The attachment bowtie looks to be a larger and it also has a guide pin attached to it on one side, something the old one didn't have.  I am happy to get this one back in the game for next season.

That closing mechanism almost cost me a finger once. I bought one for myself and one for my dad, both of our closing mechanisms bent out on those things. Looks like I will be contacting Kershaw! Thanks for the tip!

Yes, they sent me a complete replacement knife set with sheath.  It looks like they added a captive pin to the blade closing mechanism.
